Divers Log 03: Day 5


NOTHING MATCHES OR COULD STAND IN THE WAY OF THE DESTRUCTIVE MIGHT OF THE EELS!!! All is well in the depths of the ocean today. You'll find here the most recent change-log, but before we get into that. I want to talk three things. Firstly, there is controller support and the control scheme feels great whether you are using a keyboard and mouse or a good old fashioned game controller.

  • WASD/Arrow Keys/Joystick Left: Swim about
  • Mouse/Joystick Right: Aim harpoon gun
  • LMB/Right Trigger 02: Fire harpoon gun
  • RMB/Joystick Button 01: Dash away
  • ESC/Start: Pause game

Next up, since death comes so swiftly in The Deep and being submerged underwater doesn't exactly place you in a dominant position as opposed to your newly discovered, sometimes hostile aquatic friends, I have started on a sort of dash mechanic! It will give the main character a short but powerful burst of speed at the expense of a good amount of oxygen, to say, get away from the jaws of an angler last minute, or quickly evade an area about to be shocked by a frightened eel. Its risk of use in certain field scenarios make the dash move a last resort.

And lastly, due too some connectivity issues, I could not upload the image meant for yesterdays Diver Log, so it has been added below, and the original post has been updated with the image as well. SO without any further ado, here is the recent change-log for The Deep.


  • Implemented eels!!! Passive creatures who just want to be left to do eel stuff, get to close or spook the eel, and it delivers a quick but nasty shock randomly and unexpectedly.
  • Fixed a bug which is displayed in the gif above, where the eels attack (or defense depending on what end of the harpoon gun your on) ended all forms of life as we know them and without HP disabled, the game would crash.
  • Added eel shock sprites and effects.
  • Added all sounds to respective sound channels.
  • Controller support for those who don't like the keyboard layout.
  • Added main menu functionality.
  • Added pause menu functionality.
  • Rewrote 'HarpoonGun' script (work in progress).
  • Rewrote 'PickUpHarpoon' script (work in progress).
  • Optimized 'DiverOxygen' script and started the implementation of a new health and oxygen indicators.
  • Added map boundaries.
